Paste a draft and every misspelling, confused word, broken agreement and stray comma is marked where it sits, with the correction one click away. 58 rules and a 23,261-word lexicon, running in this tab, on every keystroke.
Every rule reads the words on either side before it fires. That is the difference between a checker that finds the wrong their and one that underlines every their in the document and asks you to sort it out.
A curated table of phonetic misspellings, plus a dictionary pass that fires only when a real word sits one typing slip away.
its/it’s, their/there/they’re, your/you’re, then/than, affect/effect, lose/loose, whose/who’s. Every one reads the words around it before it fires.
Subject–verb agreement, a/an by sound rather than by letter, could of, doubled words, amount/number, less/fewer.
Sentence openings, days and months, and the pronoun I.
Doubled marks, a space stranded before a comma, a missing space after a full stop, unbalanced brackets and quotes, decade apostrophes.
Wordy phrases with a shorter equivalent, redundant pairs, a word leaning on itself, passive voice.
52 pattern rules plus 6 whole-document detectors. All but one carry a mechanical fix; passive voice is flagged and left to you.
Not a paragraph at a time. Several of the checks read the sentence around a word before deciding, and the repeated-word and unbalanced-bracket detectors need the whole document to see anything at all.
Spelling, agreement, a/an, doubled words, stray spaces before commas. Fix all clears every one of them in a single pass and leaves the style notes alone, because those are the ones with a judgement in them.
their/there, its/it’s, affect/effect and their relatives are context calls. Each finding says which reading it took and why, so you can disagree with it and press Ignore.
The score counts findings per hundred words. It cannot hear a sentence that is grammatical and still wrong, and that is the pass no checker does for you.
A confusable-word rule that fires on the bare word is useless: it marks the correct spelling as often as the wrong one, and after the third false alarm you stop reading the marks.
So it’s is only flagged after a preposition, before own, or in front of a noun that already has its own verb. a and an are decided by sound rather than by letter, which is why an hour, a university and an MBA all come out right. Text pasted from Word arrives with curly apostrophes, and every rule accepts both shapes and hands back whichever one you were already using.
Worth knowing before you rely on a clean score.
Every rule works on the words in front of it. A paragraph can pass with nothing flagged and still say the wrong thing, cite the wrong year, or contradict the paragraph above it.
There is no corpus behind this page and no document to match your text against. Nothing here tells you whether a sentence appears somewhere else.
Grammar findings and AI-detection scores are unrelated measurements. The AI checker on this site is the separate tool, and it estimates rather than matches.
Mechanical errors are the cheapest marks to lose. They are also the ones a reader notices first, before a single point in the argument has landed.
Paste the essay, press Fix all, then walk the confusable findings one by one. What is left after that is the writing itself, which is where your attention should have been in the first place. Nothing is uploaded, so this works on a draft you have not handed in.
Free, and there is no account. The checker is JavaScript running in this tab, so there is no per-check cost to meter and nothing to sign up for. Every finding and every fix is available on the first visit.
No. The whole document is checked on every keystroke, and a few thousand words re-checks in under a hundredth of a second, so there is no reason to cap it.
No. There is no analysis endpoint behind this page. Load it once and disconnect from the network, and the checker keeps working, because the rules and the dictionary are already in the tab.
It is 100 when nothing is flagged and falls as findings per hundred words rises. Style notes weigh 0.6 of an error and stop counting after 2 instances of the same note, so a passage written deliberately in one register is not punished nine times for it. Real errors are never capped. It is this site's scale rather than a standard one, and the issue count underneath it is the part to take literally.
Spelling only flags a word when the dictionary holds a close, real neighbour that looks like a typing slip, which is what keeps it from renaming your proper nouns — and it also means an invented word can pass. It has no view on facts, structure, citations or whether the argument holds.
Yes. Paste the essay, clear the mechanical errors, then read the confusable findings one at a time. Checking your own draft is not restricted anywhere; rules about generative AI in submitted work are a separate matter and govern regardless of which tool you use.
Red is an outright error: a misspelling, a broken agreement, a wrong word. Amber is a call you might reasonably make differently, such as a wordy phrase or less where fewer is conventional. Fix all touches the errors and leaves the amber style notes for you.
